What Is Disinfection Of Water?

0What is Water Disinfection Water? Water disinfection is the removal, deactivation or killing of pathogenic microorganisms in water. This results in the resulting in termination of growth and reproduction.  One of the effects of pathogenic microorganisms in drinking water can be illnesses.  Sterilisation is a process related to disinfection, like taking a course of antibiotics, during the sterilisation process harmful and harmless microorganisms are removed.

Application’s of Disinfection

Disinfection is attained by physical or chemical disinfectants by removing organic contaminants from water which serve as nutrients for microorganisms. Disinfectants kill microorganisms and have a residual effect meaning that they remain active in the water. This prevents pathogenic microorganisms from growing in the plumbing or cold water storage tanks, water supply or water system.

Chemicals Used for Water Disinfection

The following chemicals are used for disinfection:

  • Hypochlorite
  • Chlorine
  • Ozone
  • Chlorine dioxide

In some instances, physical disinfection of water is carried through processes such as UV (Ultraviolet light), electronic radiation and gamma rays.

How does Disinfection work?

Chemical disinfection work in natural or untreated water to reduce pathogenic microorganisms in drinking water by purification steps such as oxidation, coagulation, and disinfection to make drinking water safe. This bacteria will not multiply in the water during distribution and remains in the water for this.

Storage Tanks for Disinfection Chemicals

Enduramaxx’s Chemical Dosing Tanks available from 50 litres to 1500 litres moulded PE or PP. These dosing tanks are specifically designed for use within the water treatment, purification, chemical dosing, and storage applications.  Chemical tank bunds are larger than the volume of the chemical tank it is holding so they can contain the full contents of the tanks if it becomes comprised. Each bund for the chemical tanks is designed to work with the volume of one of our dosing tanks. The 172702 200 litre tank is designed to stand inside the 172702-Bund 220-litre bund tank which has a volume of 110% of the 200-litre dosing tank.

Our cylindrical chemical tanks include a flat raised section shelf section which can be used to mount equipment on top of the tank. This is ideal for mounting items such as dosing pumps, industrial mixers, and instrumentation.
