DI Water / Deionised Water Tank

Deionised water storage tanks or DI water tanks are required for deionised water is made by running tap water, spring water, or distilled water through an electrically charged resin. These resins are often a mixed ion exchange bed with both positive and negative charged resins. Cations and anions in the water exchange with H+ and OH– in the resins, producing H2O (water).  Deionised water is reactive, and its properties start to change as soon as it is exposed to air. Deionized water has a pH of 7 when it is delivered, but as soon as it meets carbon dioxide from the air, the dissolved CO2 reacts to produce H+ and HCO3–, driving the pH closer to 5.

Distilled vs. Deionised Water Uses

The purity of deionised water depends on the source of water. Deionised water is used when a soft solvent is needed. It is used for:

  • chemistry experiments involving ionic compounds
  • washing glassware, especially the final rinse
  • solvent preparation
  • calibration standards
  • batteries

The Difference Between Distilled and Deionized Water

You can drink tap water, but it is not suitable for most laboratory tests, solutions, calibrating equipment, or cleaning glassware. For the lab, you need purified water and common purification methods include reverse osmosis (RO) and deionisation.  Distillation and deionisation are similar in that both processes remove ionic impurities, distilled water, and deionized water (DI) are not the same nor are they interchangeable for many purposes.

DI Deionised Storage Tanks

Enduramaxx manufactures a number of vertical tanks that are suitable.  The industrial tanks are offered with options including liquid level sensor assemblies, and fill pipes,  fittings and modifications to suit your application including inlets, outlets, PN16 and ANSI flanges are required to have plastic backing rings to avoid contact of metal with the de-ionised water, welded sockets and as well as fume proof lids and vents
